Lack of Effort!

The tortoise challenged the hare to a racing bout;

The hare, seeing the tortoise far ahead,

Came leaping fast—but paused to sleep a

 while;

Meanwhile, the tortoise plodded on and on,

And slowly passed the sleeping hare to win!

The hare was beaten—not for lack of speed,

But by the habit of giving up the race.

Behold! The hare that failed to strive

Was vanquished by its own lack of effort.
