My Duty Is to Study!

A Children's Poem

I do not wish to go to school!

I'd rather play out on the street!

Playing games is my duty, I say;

Call them here, and they'll join me!

O Rooster! Rooster! Will you come?

Will you join me in a game of fun?

Go away! I cannot come!

To crow at dawn is my duty!

O Sparrow! Sparrow! Will you come?

Will you join me and have some fun?

No! No! I cannot come!

To search for food is my duty!

Doggy! Doggy! Will you come?

Will you join me in playful fun?

No! No! I cannot come!

To guard the home is my duty!

O Crow! O Crow! Will you come?

Will you join me and play along?

No! No! I cannot come!

To build my nest is my duty!

O Cow! O Cow! Will you come?

Will you join me and leap around?

No! No! I cannot come!

To give us milk is my duty!

All creatures here, day after day,

Perform their duties in their own way.

My duty too, is clear to see—

To study well, that's the task for me!

All my friends go off to school,

And learn their lessons, as good children should.

Why did this truth escape my mind?

I'll go to school, and never fall behind!
